Up to 3 inches of additional rain, 45 mph gusts, coastal flooding in forecast for N.J.

Dreary, cool conditions will continue through the first half of the week in New Jersey though the amount of rain and wind will vary greatly by location.

While parts of the Jersey Shore might see 2 to 3 additional inches of rain by Wednesday along with winds gusts of up to 45 mph and moderate flooding, the northwestern part of the state is expected to remain relatively dry with much lighter winds, forecasters say.

Winds will be a bit lighter on Monday as gusts along the coast should top out above 40 mph, the National Weather Service said.

Minor flooding is likely in Middlesex and Monmouth counties as well as along the Delaware Bay.

Forecasters anticipate moderate flooding in coastal areas of Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May during high tides with those areas under a coastal flood warning.

Photos out of Wildwood, Stone Harbor, Avalon and Sea Isle showed flooded streets during Sundays high tide.

Wind gusts between now and Wednesday should range from the low 20s in northwestern counties to the mid 40s in Atlantic and Cape May counties. A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. in coastal areas of Atlantic, Cape, May and Ocean. That could result in a scattered power outages, the weather service said.

The day doesnt figure to be a washout everywhere, though.

Clouds and showers will remain for coastal areas of New Jersey but the (northwest areas) will have frequent breaks in the clouds and limited rain chances, the National Weather Service said in in its Monday morning forecast discussion.

Highs will mainly be in the upper 50s on Monday during a stretch of weather that AccuWeather.com says will have intermittent rain and unseasonably cool conditions.

More rain pushes in from south to north during the overnight into Tuesday.

The steady rains will probably be across southeast New Jersey by midnight and these rains will progress northwest into the Delaware Valley by sunrise, the weather service explained. Lows will dip into the mid to upper 40s.

Tuesday will be wet, cool and windy as well, especially along the Shore. Rain finally beings to move away on Wednesday on what should be a mostly cloudy day with highs in the mid 60s.

Then some beautiful fall weather in on tap for Thursday and Friday with sunny skies and highs in the low 70s.Current weather radar
